Gallery Program of the Mary Beth Hotel

About the event

Beau Baudier and I developed the Mary Beth Hotel from the shells of three buildings that date to the 1860s and have sat vacant in the CBD since 1985. They’ve been horse stables and saloons and yes, even brothels.

The Mary Beth is named after my mom, who left earth by suicide after a short battle with cancer in 2002. I was 18. She left behind more than 1,500 original works. In honor of my mom’s relationship to creation, the Mary Beth’s walls are full of artwork for sale from over 30 local artists hand selected by curator Maya Pen.
And for the first time, I am among those artists.

Mary Beth will house my intergenerational collaboration with her — Son of a Ghost. I’ve written letters to her on top of her work in what feels like a reconciliation and a celebration at the same time.

This event is the debut of this work, and you are someone I want to share it with.

Mary Beth said that it’s not the output or the object that matters, that art is meant to forge new connections between people. If you are receiving this email, it is because you are someone whose connection to me is significant, and whose connection to this project would mean the world to me. So, please join us for an interactive evening in celebration of these buildings and the craftsmanship within.

Welcome to The Mary Beth Hotel & Gallery
